A couple pics from our neighborhood

As harried as I was yesterday, trying route after route (after route after route) to get home with Caroline (and not knowing what/when the school would be doing with Anna Claire), I somehow 'forgot' to get any pictures of the spectacle! As I said, we blessedly escaped all damage, mostly because we're at the high point on the hill. But some neighbors and the neighborhood did sustain some property damage - mostly in the form of flooded basements and a street light that got taken down by the rushing waters.

Both of these pics are actually from after the torrential rain had stopped and the waters had subsided some (obviously more so in the second, you can see 'depth' from how submerged the split rail fence is in the first pic). At it's worst, that was rushing whitewater that spread all the way across the street you see in the second pic, then down through a cul-de-sac where neighbors told us that the water reached 4ft deep.

Thankfully the water immediately around us has now subsided. Other areas aren't as lucky yet. The schools are closed again for tomorrow, and the county still has 78 road closures due to remaining flooding, bridges washed out, and some roads collapsed from the ground underneath being washed out.
