A Day of Firsts

Yesterday was a long day of firsts.

First day of Pre-K.
A bigger deal than you might think, seeing as Anna Claire has already been through 2 years of preschool. For one thing, it's a new school (both to her and recently opened). And along with a new school, comes new teachers (Ms. Julie and Ms. Alli). She does have a bit of an advantage in that she knew Ms. Alli from her preschool (she took the new Pre-K position when this school opened). They also have some new routines - like lunch in a more 'cafeteria-like' setting (outside their classroom, central in the building, with lots of little tables set up). There's also 'quiet time' - a 1 hour, state-mandated period - it's not required that the children truly nap (which Anna Claire hasn't done in a long while, much to my chagrin!), but they must play quietly/independently (read, puzzles, etc) on their own nap mat. From what I understand, it went over surprisingly well! Last, but not least, it's also a longer day (2.5 hours longer, it mirrors the elementary school day in length/time). She seems to be adjusting well, though Caroline isn't sure she's too hot on being woken by her sister in the bathroom (they share a jack-and-jill bath) at 7am! Anna Claire has come home for the last 2 days though, raving about all her new friends and all the fun she's having. So far, so good!

First day of Soccer.
Anna Claire also had her first soccer practice yesterday evening (hence the 'long' part of our day of firsts). She had a blast, and even scored a goal in the scrimmage they played at the end of practice! Her only disappointment about it thus far is that she doesn't have practice *every* night . . .!

And, for Caroline and I, our first days of adjusting to our new schedule/routine. It's actually working pretty well - we have a bit more time to get things done. We'll probably be starting Gymboree next week - Play, so she can hone her already-adept climbing skills and Music, as she was absolutely enthralled at the class we observed last week.

Back to school and busy, busy, busy!

Finally have a chance to comment...anyway how ironic, Anna Claire's 1st day of soccer was also Cameron's 1st day of try-outs for Parkland High School. How scary does that sound! I bet Anna Claire doesn't have any blood blisters like Cam - at least I hope not!
